HEY Y'ALL!

Well, y'all, we officially wrapped up our 2026 wedding season this past Saturday, and we couldn't have asked for a sweeter ending. Our final wedding of the year was my niece's, making it just a little more special. After a season full of beautiful celebrations, long days, and a whole lot of love poured into every plate, I think I've earned a day off!

Of course, there's no slowing down just yet! We've got a busy week ahead, including Hampden-Sydney Parents Weekend, a few special gatherings, and plenty happening in the kitchen.

And somehow, we're already saying goodbye to October! Halloween is Saturday, November is knocking on the door, and we've got some exciting things planned around 30 Days of Gratitude. Because if there's one thing I believe, it's that where your mind goes, your energy flows. And sometimes we all need a little reminder to get our attitude of gratitude back in the right place — myself included!

We've also got some important news about what the next chapter of Grateful Fed is going to look like. We've been hinting at changes for a while, and we're finally ready to share a little more about where we're headed. The letter from Tammy has a pretty big announcement. I wanted to clear the air before the rumor mill started.

But first, here's what's cooking this week!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER: Good Old-Fashioned Comfort Food!

There's just something about coming home on a cool fall evening and knowing supper is already taken care of.

And y'all, pork chops and apples are two of my favorite things this time of year! So this week, we're bringing a little old-fashioned, stick-to-your-ribs comfort food to your dinner table. Nothing fancy, just good homemade food made with love.

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK

• Good Old-Fashioned Fried Pork Chop — Golden, crispy, and seasoned just right.

• Three-Piece Fried Chicken Tenders — Our Alpha-Gal-friendly alternative, served with your choice of honey mustard or BBQ dipping sauce.

Both dinners come with:

Homemade Mashed Potatoes with Country Gravy Southern-Style Green Beans and Soft Yeast Rolls

Warm Baked Apples — Your Sweet Bite!

SOUP'S ON, TOO!

We're also making a big pot of Loaded Baked Potato Soup, available by the quart!

Perfect for adding to your Wednesday dinner order or picking up a quart or two to have on hand for those chilly fall evenings.

And don't worry — all the loaded fixings come on the side, so you can dress your soup up just the way you like it!

Soup quarts available as add-ons or for individual pickup.

Fall evenings, homemade mashed potatoes, warm baked apples, and a supper you don't have to cook yourself?

Sounds like a pretty good Wednesday to me.

Get those orders in, y'all! We are Grateful to Serve!

KITCHEN ALCHEMY -When the Veil Grows Thin

Honoring what was, releasing what is, and welcoming what might be.

Long before Halloween became about costumes, candy, and jack-o'-lanterns, the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter — a turning point between the light half and the dark half of the year.

In Celtic folklore and modern spiritual traditions, this is a time when the veil between the living and the spirit world is believed to grow thin. A time when ancestors feel a little closer, intuition speaks a little louder, and we're invited to honor what has passed while making space for what comes next.

I've always loved that symbolism.

Because lately, I feel like I'm standing in that in-between space myself. Not quite where I used to be, and not yet where I'm going.

And maybe that's what this season is really about. Not fearing the darkness or the unknown, but understanding that they're part of the cycle. The trees don't fight to keep their leaves. The garden doesn't apologize for going dormant. Nature understands that endings and beginnings belong to one another.

I'm trying to remember that, too.

A Little Samhain Ritual

This Halloween, take a few quiet minutes to light a candle, pour yourself something warm, and reflect on three things:

• Honor: What from this past season deserves your gratitude?

• Release: What are you ready to stop carrying?

• Welcome: What would you like to invite into the season ahead?

You can write your answers in a journal, speak them aloud, or simply sit with them.

And if there's someone you've loved and lost, this is a beautiful time to remember them. Make one of their favorite recipes, share a story, or set a place for their memory at your table.

There's something powerful about remembering that what has ended can still have meaning.

As for me, I'm learning to be a little more comfortable standing between what was and what will be.

Maybe I don't need to see the whole path just yet.

Maybe the veil isn't only something between worlds. Maybe it's also the space between who we've been and who we're becoming.

And perhaps this season is inviting us to look through it with a little less fear and a little more wonder.

Dear Friends,

Well, y'all, I've been hinting for a while that some changes were coming to Grateful Fed, and I think it's time to share what that means.

Our plan is to close our Third Street location at the end of December, once our Christmas catering season wraps up, and bring our operations together at Fuqua School.

There. I said it. And I won't pretend that was easy.

I've spent a lot of time lately journaling, praying, and asking God, the universe, and just about anybody listening to guide me toward the highest and best. And y'all, sometimes I wonder if I should have been a little more specific with that request! Because instead of everything falling into place, it has felt like everything has been falling apart.

The reality is that the economy has changed. Food and labor costs keep rising, customers are spending differently, and maintaining two separate operations just isn't sustainable anymore.

I've spent years building Grateful Fed, and I'm proud of what we've created. But somewhere along the way, I think I convinced myself that moving forward always meant getting bigger. More events, more responsibilities, more things to manage. And when things got harder, I just worked harder.

Lately, I've been asking myself a different question: Am I holding on because something is still right for me, or because I've worked too hard to imagine letting it go?

And that's a tough one.

But Grateful Fed isn't going away. We're simply changing how we operate so we can keep doing what we love.

We'll continue catering corporate events, family celebrations, and community gatherings. Wednesday Night Dinners will continue from Fuqua, and we'll be working out convenient pickup and delivery options. Our wedding services will become more selective, focusing on smaller celebrations of 100 guests or fewer and partnerships with a limited number of local venues.

Because at the end of the day, I'd rather do fewer things exceptionally well than lose the homemade freshness, quality, and personal touches that made Grateful Fed special in the first place.

And if Fuqua is going to be our home, I want us to really become part of that family. I've got dreams of school gardens, partnerships with local farms, farm-to-table experiences, and opportunities to teach young people more about where their food comes from. Those are the things that remind me why I fell in love with feeding people.

But first, we've got to get our feet underneath us. Even Janice the Vanis has decided she needs a break! With our van out of commission, we're focusing primarily on pickups and limiting deliveries and setups while we get things sorted out.

One thing at a time, y'all.

I've always heard that sometimes things have to fall apart before they can fall together. But it's a whole different experience when you're the one standing in the middle of the pieces.

There are moments when this feels like failure. Moments when I'm relieved. Moments when I'm scared to death. And moments when I can almost see the possibilities on the other side. I'm learning that all those feelings can exist together.

As we head into November and prepare for 30 Days of Gratitude, I'm reminding myself of something I believe deeply: Where your mind goes, your energy flows.

I can't control everything that's happening, but I can be more intentional about where I put my energy. And I'm choosing to put it toward the people, the possibilities, and the things that still bring me joy.

I'm grateful for our customers, our team, and everyone who has helped build this little dream. And I'm grateful for the opportunity to make a different choice before there's nothing left of me to give.

I don't know exactly what Grateful Fed will look like a year from now. But I know what I want it to feel like.

Good homemade food. People who love what they do. A business that's part of its community. And a whole lot of love in every bite.

Maybe everything isn't falling apart. Maybe some of it is finally finding its place.

Thank you for being part of our story. We've still got a whole lot of love to spread and a whole lot of people to feed.

Gratefully Yours,

Tammy
